I apologize profusley at the sudden end of my journalling; but I will fill you in on what had been going on in my world since I last wrote. The last entry I was in the middle of a very long focus for "Room Service" so I shall summarize what has occurred since the fated focus. Room Service went decently well although during opening night we had problems with some lights and had to repair them during the show...let me tell you not an experience I want to repeat. The rest of the shows went off with out a hitch, so that was wonderfully uneventful. I helped out with our next show "Assassins" a great musical; It was presented in the black box which is a much more intimate space then the main theater, and a very different experience I felt much more engaged in the show. Sondeim, the composer/writer) was able to effortlessly combine music that was very upbeat and interesting to hear with such a dark subject matter it was a mix of serious humor that was exquisite. That was the last show that I was working for the theater department, although I work for the Fine Arts Center and I ended up being the light board operator for the Viterbo's show choir, and a performance of the Nutcracker put on by the local dance company.
Academically I was working diligently to get my work done, this is part of the reason why I was unable to keep blogging; I will post some of my work that I did a lot of it was project work. In Stagecraft I made a pirate ship. This is not the best picture, but at least now you can see what the majority of my time was spent thinking about if not working on the last couple of weeks of class. I also had a these projects in Text Analysis, with Sir David where as a group 4 or so of us would design, interpret, view as a director, an actor, and a dramatug a play and we would present our final product to the class. We did at least 6 of these projects, so that was a big time sucker. I did so enjoy the projects so it was fun to be able to present ideas to other people who were as interested in the subject matter as I was. This semester I moved from the high 6th floor to the third floor with my friend Emily. We are enjoying the semester thus far are room is turning into quite the study hang-out we are reading this very dry theater history book and well sometimes misery likes company :)
This semester is starting very fast yesterday we started classes and today is round 2. I have Intro to Philosophy, with Professor Harwood, he really could be tommy lee jones look a like, and he does have a very texas accent. I think it will make philosophy a lot more entertaining....I think I could nickname the class Bonanza: the philosophical western. I also have Theater History and Lit 1, with Ms. Janet who I had last semester for Intro to theater, this is the class with the incredibly dry history book. I then have drafting which I am very excited for with a small class of 7 I think it will be very laid back yet really good class. Then to conclude the 8am to noon saga I have Costuming which I am just a lot nervous for because in the course there is a huge project where in I will end up writing a book about costume history from ancient egypt to the 1980's. Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have Principles of Design which will be fun because it is taught by both Frank and Jeff, the two main design professors, as they put it class will be slightly like a bad variety show once in a while. Today we were discussing art in general and Jeff had something about if Beethoven had been born in the 5th century his style of music would not have been accept and he could have been a baker instead. Frank replied with "Yea, they would have called him Baker-toven." I think you can see how this class is going to entertaining at the least. To finish my day I have stage management with mr. Micheal will see how that goes.
Outside of classes I am the Master Electrician for Anton in Show buissnes, so I am already busy and looking forward to getting down to the business of show buissness. I have my first light hang this Friday! I am a little nervous but so excited! We also have portfolio reviews coming up in two weeks so I am actually going to get started on rebuilding mine for next saturday.
So Remember....
